Anton Bogdanov repart de zéro : quand 5 Years' Compilation servait de rétrospective, Flood et encore plus Distant Music lui permettent de faire table rase du passé. En ce qui concerne ce dernier, il s'agit d'un florilège de croquis indépendants et souvent retouchés mais le résultat n'en est pas moins stupéfiant. En plus de sublimes moments d'extase ("Sparkle Song", "Chanting Drone"), Distant Music contient quelques expérimentations électroniques qui auront de quoi surprendre. Indispensable !

Collection of previously unreleased songs, recorded in different environment, using different equipment.
These were stuck on my virtual drive for several years, and I've been revisiting these tracks and ejoying them every once in a while. I feel like letting them go, so I can focus on the brand-new material.
Some songs were recorded in pre-pandemic time, such as "At Dusk" and "Overtones". These still hold the vibe of living in China, engaging the listener with some field recordings and folk instruments, juxtaposing those with polyphonic analog synth pads.
Others, for example "Distant Mountain Loop" or "Underwater Song" were recorded straight to cassette deck and have the element of spontaneous improvisation, balancing between cassette drone and guitar soloing.
Anyway, I feel much better that I shared these with you.

Just imagine if these outtakes made it into EATEOT, the project would've been over seven hours! I love how "I Might Be Vanishing" is a stark contrast from other tracks, being only nine seconds.
