about
Pool of Light (RUS) and thruoutin (USA) met as active members in the Chinese underground music scene, where they bonded over a shared appreciation of experimental music genres such as drone, ambient, and field recordings. Residing in Shenyang and Beijing, respectively, the two worked from afar on this latest collaborative split Revive at Dawn, drawing on themes of awakening. The concepts of renewal and reanimation then exist as an intrinsic bond between the two pieces and illuminate the listener as if they are facing a new dawn.
Pool of Light - Awake
“Awake” is a soundscape journey to the depth of human mind and the sleep. The piece could be divided to 4 parts, presenting different time of the sleep before waking up. Initially built up from the live guitar-driven recording, “Awake” holds analog synth loops as well as grand piano improvisation in the end, blending with the original idea and flow of the song. In addition, some late-night field recordings were added to enlarge the immersion effect.
All audio and was produced, and mixed by Anton Bogdanov.

thruoutin - Off Grand
OFF GRAND is a mixed-media art piece best enjoyed with its accompanying video: a digital recording that captures a winter sunrise near Grand Avenue in Oakland, California. The track reflects on the nuances of the early morning and how our routines affect the flow of the day. Sonically, the arrangement contains elements produced by cassette tape manipulation, field recordings, ambient drones, and modular synthesizers.
Audio produced, mixed, and mastered by Brad M. Seippel.
